Artist's Statement:
This
painting was started on August 30, 2004 and completed on the evening of
October 30, 2004. At the time, my degenerative disc disease was
progressing from my lower back and into my neck. Among the
symptoms, was numbness in my hands. Consequently, I was going
through one of my many rounds of physical therapy. And as I did -
I thought of Miss Lynch and I composed this painting.
The background was inspired by the aurora
borealis. There is something about the aurora borealis that's like
God saying, "I haven't forgotten about you. On this night, I
will light the sky.
I will light the sky in a manner that is unlike that of which any
man can do."
And the determined spirit of Miss Jessica Lynch inspired the overall
ardent spirit of the artwork.
